Letharnians are an ancient people who live in tribal clans and domaneys within the forests, swamps and jungle of the Greenwood. They first settled Asteria after migrating from Letharnia over seven thousand years ago.
Tall, athletic, with long dark hair, olive complexion, angular features and vivid green eyes, many Letharnians are spellcasters, people gifted with true magic who can manipulate the energy that exists within and between all living things. Each spellcaster has a particular talent - some individuals can locate an object, others can encourage plant growth, call animals to them, or read peoples thoughts. In others the power is stronger. They can perform telekinesis, manipulate other's actions, infuse objects with power or physically transform themselves by changing their appearance. The strongest can use magic as a weapon. The most powerful spellcaster of a generation is appointed the Clan Chief or Lanou, and they wear a silver medallion embossed with a leaf as a symbol of their status. The Lanou remains chief for life, unless another surpasses their ability.
Letharnians are fearsome fighters, practicing a hand-to-hand combat art called Zhan-Doha. They are excellent marksmen, favouring weapons such as bows and arrows and throwing knives. They speak their own language (Letharn) rather than the common tongue (Asterilga) which is spoken by the other realms. Letharn words, such as deke, nahme, limba and lisfe are now spoken throughout Asteria.
